I'm rearing several suraka larvae since L1 successfully on Nerium oleander.

But today some of the L5 started to have suddenly strange symptoms of suffering: they start to vomiting or have diarrhea and twist, then they fall on the bottom of container and continue to twist and loose green liquid from the mouth.

I don't think it is a disease but some plant with some insecticide (altough I wash plants in water for 30 minutes before offering to larvae) .

Or maybe it can be some little Acarus ...

Dear friends,

since I lost several Gonimbrasia pupae in the past while waiting for their emerging, now I would know the best method for keeping pupae of species which pupate underground.

I have pupae of Bunaea alcinoe, Gonimbrasia zambesina and Gynanisa maja.

I 'm keeping them on a layer of spagnum moss with humid sand underside, and 2 times a week I put them in lukewarm water for 30-60 minutes, to preventing drying and stimulate emerging. Actually I keep them in my room temperature ...

Hello to you all,

I think can be useful to know the experiences of each member so I would ask to you the following:

- How much caterpillars do you keep in each cage (you can specify the size of the cage/container) without having disease problems?

- What thing do you use for cleaning the cages? And what can be the best for disinfect the containers from virus?

I use a solution of water + bleach (hypochlorite) but I think can be something better.

Hello,

I obtained no constant success in trying a pairing of Attacus atlas and caesar using cages of 60-80 cm; in 2 occasion they paired, several others (maintaining the same temperature conditions) not.
So I'd like to know your experiences in which cages and environments you used for successful matings of this genus.

I wish you a good new 2006!

Every Autumn my butterfly house is standing in our livingroom for about 8 weeks, after the breeding season.

I made this butterfly house (123wx108hx50cmD) in 1990, with a plexiglass forsite (8mm) and the backside is decorated polycarbonate (10mm). The lightcap has 3 bulbs of 100Watt above the ribbed plastic glass. On the bottom there is a sinc tray, ventilation and an old computer ventilator. The temperature is about 21-30C. The bottom is decorated with clean sand, wood and non-poisoned cocopeat. ...
